Suzanne

Hi, I’m Sue!  Welcome to my site and thank you for taking the time to get to know me.

Having raised 3 children, I returned to education as a mature student in 2016. I have always been creative and wanted to broaden my skills. The multi-disciplinary degree gave me the opportunity to work with clay and I was immediately captivated with its malleable properties and the endless things I could create. In 2020, I graduated with a BA in Art and Design from Plymouth University and I knew then that I wanted a career as a potter. In the space of a few short weeks, orders were made for a shed, kiln and all the necessary equipment so I could set up my studio at home and continue my journey with clay.

With a passion for Raku pottery, I set up my business as Suzanne Langstaff Ceramics my vessels are on display in Cornish galleries. Unfortunately, in the winter it is impossible to fire raku vessels, so I spent time throwing different forms and created items for my home. This sparked an idea to create affordable and durable items that functioned well and were a cohesive range; that’s when Speckled Earth Pottery began.

From my studio in Cornwall my wheel thrown, stoneware vessels are made from a toasted, speckled clay; hence the name Speckled Earth Pottery! I apply colourful glazes to all my products with themes that also include my interests in all things lunar, crystal and nature. I hope you can find the perfect piece for your home or perhaps a gift for a loved one.
